Genesis Talent Academy
We train the engineers we need.
Nigeria does not lack talent; it lacks the structures that turn talent into deployable engineering capability. Rather than compete for a scarce pool, GSLTech built its own — and the Academy is now the company's primary route to permanent engineering staff.
The inaugural cohort
Launched 27 July 2026, and still filling
- Scholars in post
- 4
- Places open
- Scholars and Fellows
- Specialisations

- Trajectory by 2028
- ~170
Four Scholars are in post. The remaining Scholar places, and the Fellowships, are open and will be filled over the coming months.
Scholars enter at the beginning of the pathway; Fellows enter with prior experience and carry more of the delivery load. Both work on the platform itself — not on exercises — under review, with their contributions held to the same continuous-integration gate as everything else the company ships.
Specialisations
Six engineering tracks
Backend engineering
Python and Django, relational data modelling, API design, and the test discipline that makes a change safe to deploy.
Frontend engineering
React and modern web application architecture, accessibility, and interface design that survives a low-bandwidth connection.
Mobile engineering
React Native and Expo across Android and iOS, offline-first data handling, and device capability integration.
Data and analytics
Query design at scale, aggregation, statistical disclosure control, and the difference between a number that is true and a number that is merely computed.
Infrastructure and reliability
Containerised deployment, continuous integration, observability, and the operational discipline that keeps a live institution running.
Security and assurance
Authorisation design, fence testing, dependency surveillance, and the habit of assuming a boundary is broken until proven otherwise.
How we recruit
Selection, then apprenticeship, then the bench
Open application
Candidates apply directly. We look for evidence of building things, not only for credentials — a repository, a shipped project, a problem someone solved because it was in front of them.
Technical assessment
A practical exercise in the candidate's chosen track, reviewed against the same standards a production change would face.
Interview
How a candidate reasons about a problem they have not seen, how they respond to being told they are wrong, and whether they can explain their work to someone who is not an engineer.
Scholar or Fellow
Placement onto the pathway that matches experience, with a named specialisation and a mentor.
Work on the real system
Contributions to the platform under review, gated by continuous integration. Nothing is a sandbox exercise.
Onto the permanent bench
Graduating talents join the engineering team or the professional panel — and are prepared for their own professional registration.
Why it exists
Capacity is the constraint, not ambition
Nigeria produces roughly 600,000 graduates a year. The gap between that number and the country's deployable software engineering capability is the single largest constraint on building serious technology here. Every company faces it; most respond by bidding for the same small pool, which raises the price without increasing the supply.
The Academy is our answer, and it is deliberately structured to produce professionals who will themselves seek registration — because the profession's standing is built by its members, not by its firms.
